Weekly Update 67

So it’s been… almost a year. Sorry.

I know “weekly” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the title here, but sometimes life gets in the way and this blog ends up sitting quietly while everything else keeps moving. That’s been the case for the last while. I kept meaning to write, but the longer it went, the harder it felt to pick up the thread again.

The good news is the site is rebuilt now, and this time it’s using Hugo. I wanted something simpler to manage. I’d been feeling the weight of my old setup and I wanted a stack that was easier to maintain, easier to reason about, and less of a chore to keep running.

A big part of the decision was seeing what my friend Sunny had done with her blog, blog.daftsoftware.com. I liked the simplicity of it and the fact that it felt clean and intentional. That pushed me toward Hugo and made the whole thing feel a lot more approachable.

The nice thing about this setup is how little there is to it. I write a post in Markdown, push it to Git, and Cloudflare handles the deploy. That’s it. No database to babysit, no CMS to maintain, no weird admin workflow to worry about. Just writing and publishing. It feels about as simple as a blog should be.

I’m also learning how Hugo works so I can use the same approach on the GhostJam website. It’s a good fit for that kind of content and it’s a useful technical exercise in its own right. The goal is simple: keep the site easy to manage and easy to publish.

So this is a bit of a reset. I wanted to get the blog back into a place where I could actually use it without fighting the system around it. That’s the goal now. I don’t have anything grand to announce. Just a simple rebuild, a simpler stack, and a little bit of momentum again.

I hope to start writing more consistently again. We’ll see how it goes.
